"The federal government has refused to enforce our immigration laws, so states are being forced to deal with illegal immigration on their own," said Independent candidate for Governor Timothy P. Cahill. "This is yet another example of what's wrong with the two party system-both parties are more concerned with playing politics than finding a solution to one of the most important problems facing our country. If they spent as much time trying to solve the country's illegal immigration problem as they did blocking Arizona's sovereign right to enforce the law we would not be having this debate right now. It's not just the federal government though--Deval Patrick has also forced our police to fight illegal immigration with one hand tied behind their backs. Police in every state should have the right to check a person's immigration status while enforcing the law and when I am Governor of Massachusetts they will." ###
