Dear Friend: We live in uncertain times. The one thing I’m certain of, however, is that our state is going in the wrong direction. As your Governor, I will change that. As Massachusetts State Treasurer since 2003, and a county and city official before that, as a husband and father putting my kids through college, I am an experienced problem solver who has lived, and understands, the pressures on the middle class. I am and have always been a fiscally conservative public servant with a healthy respect for the plight of the In June, I changed my party affiliation from Democrat to Independent. I am now independent of party politics and will put the needs of the citizens above the parties. This independence will allow me to work with and appreciate the best ideas of both sides, without being beholden to party rhetoric. I have a twenty-year history of solving problems that challenge governments at all levels: local, county, and state. From my experience, I know that the state already collects plenty of tax money to meet its needs.
The primary goal of my administration will be to grow our economy and create jobs for every person who wants one. Republicans believe in making government smaller. Democrats believe in making government bigger. I believe in making the government we have work. That is why I want to be your Governor – to make the government you fund with your hard-earned tax dollars work, to solve the most vexing of our problems, and to provide the best economic opportunities for the greatest number of people.
I look forward to working with you. Sincerely,
